Quassia or Quassia wood, botanical name – Quassia amara, an indigenous plant from the Amazon rainforest & is a small branching plant of the genus Simarubeae found in Jamaica. For many centuries Quassia was the most famous fever remedy in the world, until the appearance of synthetic drugs. Quassia effectively lower fevers by boosting Immunity. All parts of the plant contain a bitter principle called quassimarin. Quassimarin has been shown to stimulate the secretion of gastric acids, increase appetite and aid in digestion. The bark is escpecially used as as a blood purifier and to treat malaria, diarrhoea, to treat colds, used in remedies for treating diseases of the spleen, liver, and urinary tract.
