(Actaea Racemosa) Black Cohosh is a plant native to Eastern North America. Before the arrival of the Europeans, Native Americans used black cohosh to relieve various disorders including several conditions unique to women such as menopause and amenorrhea (The absence of menstruation). It has now become popular among women of all nationalities due to its effectiveness with menopausal issues such as hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, vaginal dryness, and mood swings. With these promising medicinal properties, black Cohosh has become a natural and safer alternative for HRT (Hormone replacement therapy). Black Cohosh has also been shown to help with mood swings, depression, and anxiety. Black Cohosh should NOT be taken long term (6 months maximum) as it can cause side effects such as vomiting, headaches, dizziness, and nausea. This herb should also NOT be taken by pregnant women until full term as most midwives have used black Cohosh to induce labor naturally for centuries.
